The Shabbat of this parashah, Ree, blesses the month of Elul, the last month of the Jewish year.
The Alter Rebbe explains that the month of Elul is like God being out in the fields. During the year, and especially on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, God is like a king in his palace. Only a few people are allowed into the throne room, and they must observe all the courtly formalities. And even then, the king is stern.
However, one month a year, the month of Elul, is different. HaShem becomes like a king passing through the countryside, as if returning to His city. All His subjects may go out into the fields to meet Him. He joyfully welcomes everyone, patiently listens to everything they say, and gives them what they need.
En Elul, HaShem hace que sea fácil acercarse a El. Todo lo que debemos hacer es querer verlo. Y si sólo intentamos un poco – como una persona que deja su casa y sale a recibir al rey – HaShem estará contento con nosotros y nos concederá todo lo que necesitamos para un buen año.
