This course is based on a summary of the book Jovot HaLevavot (Duties of the Heart). The original was written by Rabbi Bechaia ibn Pekuda (Spain, 1040-1110). The summary is titled “Ten Praises” (Asara hilulim), written by Rabbi Ishaia Horwitz (1555-1630) as part of his book Shnei Lujot HaBrit.
Both the original book and the summary are divided into ten "Portals" that address different aspects of serving God. These topics, adapted for Bnei Noaj, will be covered throughout the course. The course will last approximately six months. Each class will be about 45 minutes long and will cover a different topic.

The first portal deals with topics such as the oneness of God and the different principles of Judaism, such as His eternity, the fact that He has no body or form, and prophecy, among others.
The second portal deals with contemplation of divine creation as a method to become aware of God's presence.
The third portal deals with being servants of God, love and fear of God, prayer, and serving God in all matters of daily life, among other topics.
The fourth portal deals with trust in God, its meaning and effect on daily life.
The fifth portal deals with the struggle against our own passions and negative inclinations that distance us from His presence.
The sixth portal deals with humility.
The seventh portal deals with the theme of repentance.
The eighth portal deals with contemplating God's kindness towards us and the duty to reciprocate by serving Him.
The ninth portal deals with the theme of withdrawing from worldly affairs in every part of daily life.
The tenth portal talks about love for God and different methods to develop it in the heart.
