In this week's parashah we learn about Korach, a leader of the tribe of Levi who organized a rebellion against Moses.<\/p>\n
The argument he used to rebel against Moshe was that "The whole congregation is holy and God is in our midst, why do you exalt yourself above the congregation of God?"\"<\/p>\n
What Korach was saying is true. Every Jew is holy, and the "spark" of God, our nesham\u00e1<\/i> (soul) "is in our midst." But when he challenged Moshe's position, he was wrong.<\/p>\n
The Jewish people need Moshe. We need leaders, Torah teachers, who will teach us how to live a life in accordance with God's will, to reveal that "spark" hidden within us.<\/p>\n
Korah knew this. He knew that a leader was necessary. But he thought that to be a leader, it was enough to be smarter and more qualified than everyone else. He refused to allow Moses to be above the others.<\/p>\n
God showed Korach that he was making a terrible mistake. The holiness of God and the Torah is far above us. To reveal that holiness, the Jewish people need Moses. Only a leader who is above the rest of the people can shine the light of the Torah into our lives.<\/p>\n
Every generation has its Moshe. Through him, God gives every Jew the opportunity to add holiness to this world.<\/p>\n
