The Ten Commandments begin with "I am God, your Lord" and end with the warnings against murder, theft, and coveting. The difference between the first and last commandments is truly one of extremes. The first commandment speaks of the highest spiritual point, as explained in Jewish literature, which, Anojí "I," the first word of the Ten Commandments, points to God Himself, a level so sublime that it cannot be revealed by any name, letter, or symbol. On the other hand, the commandments "Thou shalt not steal" and similar ones point to such a low status that it is necessary to warn against killing, stealing, and so on.

This is how the greatness of the Ten Commandments is expressed, encompassing all of existence, from the highest point to the lowest. Moreover, on Mount Sinai, humankind was given the power to bring the highest point («I am God, your Lord») down to the lowest point, and into the entire world.

The first commandment, "I am God, your Lord," implies that the essence of God – Anojí He becomes "your Lord" – Elokeja, which in Hebrew is related to the words Limp – your strength – and Jaiuteja – your vitality. God tells every Jew, man and woman, that all their strength and vitality are only Anojí – «I.» In the deepest part of his soul, the Jew only desires and longs for the essence of God.

The story of the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi (1745-1812), founder of the Chabad Lubavitch Movement, author of the Shulchan Aruch and the Tania, He, in moments of deep concentration and union with God, would often say, "I don't want your higher paradise, I don't want your world to come; I only want you (God)." Indeed, this longing exists in the soul of every Jew, since at the time of the Giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, the first commandment, "I am God, your Lord," was inscribed upon him through the Divine words.

This is the meaning of the wish "To receive the Torah with joy and internalize it." Joy—so that the Jew may be strengthened in the face of difficulties and trials in the service of God, since things done with joy last longer. Internalizing it—so that the observance of the mitzvot reaches the very depths of the soul.

Joy and the deepest, most essential part of the soul are inextricably linked. When a person does something without joy, but out of force, the action engages only the external aspects of the person. The person is indeed acting, but only their external capacities are being utilized. Conversely, when things are done with joy, they reach the very depths of the soul, and the person's entire existence becomes connected to the observance of the mitzvot and the Torah.

On the festival of Shavuot, year after year, that Divine revelation that occurred at the time of the Giving of the Torah is awakened. God gives us again, and with greater power, the strength to unite with the level of Anojí – I – His essence, through the Torah and the Mitzvot, and that this union reaches the deepest part of the soul, until all the strength and vitality of the person are only from God.

Adapted from Shulchan Shabbat.

En la festividad de Shavuot, el Pueblo Judío recibió la Torá, en el Monte Sinaí.
