We, the Jewish people, do everything "the Jewish way." There's always a custom regarding every aspect of daily life, and even more so regarding every aspect of spiritual life. The reason for this is quite simple: since God is infinite, there is no aspect of His creation in which He is not involved. He will automatically have something to say about everything. In other words, there is no aspect of existence that is not governed by the Torah. It's like an all-inclusive vacation\u2014the Torah covers everything, literally.<\/p>\n
Within this framework, the accounting of time is also included. We measure time in our own way and mark events according to that way of measuring time. One of those ways is through the weekly Torah reading. An event might be recorded as "in such and such a year, on such and such a parashah, such and such happened." Well, in the year 5765 (2005), during the week of Parashat Emor (mid-May), the Chabad House Bulletin began circulating\u2014the very one you are reading now.<\/p>\n
Now, with this edition, we are entering the eighth year of this Bulletin. As has been mentioned many times, there are no coincidences in life; everything has a reason for being in the master plan of Creation. Sometimes we find meaning in things, or at least we get the impression that what happens has a special meaning, but it is not necessarily the same meaning that God originally planned; we simply apply that meaning to a particular event.<\/p>\n
The Bulletin began with Parashat Emor. This word means, in Hebrew, "tell them." The context is that God is teaching (among other things) the laws of ritual impurity for a Kohen, a priest. However, from a much simpler perspective, the Torah is telling us to tell! That is, "Go and tell the Jewish people" (since we are all a nation of priests, see Exodus 19:6). And that is the Bulletin's main objective: to tell, to transmit. And, of course, in the Jewish way, transmitting Torah.<\/p>\n
