We find many stories about Abraham, our patriarch, in the Torah's midrashim. From his coming to know God at the age of three, and from then on developing his knowledge and awareness of the existence of a single Creator of the Universe, through the famous story in which he smashes the idols his father made to sell, to the occasion when he is thrown alive into a fiery furnace.<\/p>\n
However, nothing appears in the Written Torah about Abraham's life until the age of 75. (At least not explicitly; it appears only in allusions, or allusions).<\/p>\n
Y lo primero que aparece es lo que \u00e9sta parash\u00e1 nos cuenta, que Di-s se le presenta a Avraham y le dice \u00abVete de tu tierra, de donde naciste, de la casa de tu padre, a la tierra que te mostrar\u00e9\u00bb. Como mencionamos, Avraham ya ten\u00eda 75 a\u00f1os, una esposa (Sarai), un grupo de gente que lo segu\u00eda y lo consideraban un l\u00edder (\u00ablas almas que hicieron en Jar\u00e1n\u00bb) y una cierta riqueza.<\/p>\n
Ahora bien, \u00bfpor qu\u00e9 la Tor\u00e1 no dice nada (en forma expl\u00edcita) sobre la vida de Avraham, quien puede ser considerado, de cierta forma, \u00abel primer jud\u00edo\u00bb hasta los 75 a\u00f1os?<\/p>\n
This omission can be explained as follows: Until the age of 75, Abraham's connection with God stemmed from his human intellect, his mind. However refined and elevated a person may be, they will never be able to establish a connection with God on their own, simply because God is infinite, and human beings are finite.<\/p>\n
Even though Abraham had already demonstrated, by putting his own life at risk, his loyalty to God and his absolute conviction of the truth of God's Oneness, contrary to what the whole world thought, nevertheless, this did not create a bond with God.<\/p>\n
It is specifically when God establishes the relationship with human beings through His precepts (embodied in the Torah) that human beings can connect with Him.<\/p>\n
Por eso, cuando la Tor\u00e1 relata el comienzo del juda\u00edsmo, no nos cuenta sobre los sacrificios de Avraham ni de sus proezas como \u00abprimer jud\u00edo\u00bb, sino que nos dice \u00abY dijo Di-s a Avram\u00bb, es decir, la Tor\u00e1 establece que el comienzo del juda\u00edsmo no es con el hombre, ni siquiera uno tan especial como Avraham, sino con Di-s. El punto de partida es Di-s.<\/p>\n
This leaves us with the important lesson that when a person approaches Judaism, they must know that the starting point is God.
