These days, Argentina (and the world) is experiencing a resurgence of antisemitism. From demonstrations by isolated groups to political parties and even local government officials, many seem to have remembered their unfounded hatred of Judaism.<\/p>\n
As we have mentioned many times, the Baal Shem Tov, founder of the Hasidic movement, used to say that from everything one hears or sees one should draw a lesson in one's service to God.<\/p>\n
1) There are several Mitzvot, some biblical and others rabbinic, whose content is the remembrance of some important event or matter.<\/p>\n
For example, the tzitzit remind us of the 613 mitzvot, and Pesach reminds us of the Exodus from Egypt. Clearly, there is a strong emphasis on remembering certain fundamental tenets of Judaism.<\/p>\n
Beyond the precept itself, the remembrance itself has an effect on the person (to such an extent that we must remember six things every day, see the Siddur Tehilat Hashem on page 86).<\/p>\n
However, antisemitism reminds us that we are Jewish. And not only that, but it pushes us to identify even more with our roots, because even if a person wants to "dissolve" into the majority and "disappear," with the passage of time, their essence always emerges. Like oil and water, no matter how vigorously you mix them, after a while the oil rises to the top and they come together again.<\/p>\n
2) Another practical point, whose effect is not only on oneself but also on the environment, is that one must be informed. It is a duty, as an ambassador of the entire Jewish people (with or without consent, because the nations see every Jew as representative of the rest of the Jewish people), to know and understand our history, at least in general terms, in order to respond to false and unfounded accusations.<\/p>\n
Lastly, but most importantly: the strength of the Jewish people throughout thousands of years of oppression and persecution (Egyptians, Persians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, Crusaders, Cossacks, Russians, Nazis, etc.) was always and always will be their adherence to the Torah.<\/p>\n
The Torah is the link between humankind, the recipient of the Torah, and God, the giver of the Torah. If God is eternal, a living God, then union with Him generates life and sustains it eternally. The Jewish people are united with God through the Torah, and that is why they are eternal.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, it's clear, even without research or statistics, that all communities where Torah study was lacking as a cornerstone of life disappeared. All families where Torah wasn't a guide for life, sooner or later, assimilated to a greater or lesser degree.<\/p>\n
So, is the world an antisemitic world? Perhaps. But if so, it's not a reason for Jews to stand idly by, but rather a reason for us to renew and strengthen our connection to our own essence.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"En estos d\u00edas se vive en la Argentina (y en el mundo entero) un resurgimiento del antisemitismo.
