In this chapter the Alter Rebbe explains that the soul also has \u201cclothing\u201d (Levushim<\/i>What are they for? Clothing shows how important a person is, like the king's robes and crown. Clothing also helps to show how beautiful a person is. Another thing about clothing is that it can be put on and taken off.<\/span><\/p>\n

The soul has three \u201cclothings\u201d:<\/p>\n

1) Thought (majshav\u00e1<\/i>)<\/p>\n

2) Speech (dibur<\/i>)<\/p>\n

3) The action (maas\u00e9<\/i>)<\/p>\n

The soul can express its intellect and emotions through thought, word, and action. Thinking about Hashem<\/i>, Torah<\/i> y Mitzvot<\/i>, etc., pronouncing the words of the prayer and while studying Torah<\/i> and doing the Mitzvot<\/i> that Hashem<\/i> Commands, the soul shows that it has love and fear of Hashem<\/i>.<\/p>\n

Now, regarding our proximity to Hashem<\/i>, What brings us closer, our "clothing" or our soul? Because if we already have a soul, which is a portion of Hashem<\/i>, Why do we need the "clothing" of the soul to be close to Hashem<\/i>The soul should be enough! But it isn't. Although the soul is very special, clothing is more important in this aspect of being close to Hashem<\/i>. Let's see:<\/p>\n

Sometimes it doesn't seem like we can get close to Hashem<\/i> fulfilling the Mitzvot<\/i>, because the Mitzvot<\/i> They are made with material things and Hashem<\/i> It is, apparently, spiritual. (Everything we can see, touch, smell, or taste are material things.) Mitzvot<\/i> They are fulfilled with material things, like a lulav<\/i> that comes from a palm tree, or a tefillin<\/i> or a mezuzah<\/i>, written on parchment, made from the hide of an animal, etc.).<\/p>\n

However, complying Mitzvot<\/i> we're getting really close to Hashem<\/i>, And we can understand this with an example:<\/p>\n

If we want to hug someone, it doesn't matter if that person is wearing a shirt, a jacket, or a coat, because the main thing is to hug them, regardless of what they're wearing. No one would say, "I just hugged my dad's jacket," but rather, "I hugged my dad!"<\/p>\n

Make a Mitzvah<\/i> It's like hugging Hashem<\/i>. The material thing with which we make the Mitzvah<\/i> It's like the "clothing" of Hashem<\/i>. So, even though Hashem<\/i> He is \u201cdressed\u201d in all those \u201cclothes\u201d, when we make a Mitzvah<\/i> It's as if we were embracing the King of the universe.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, when we study Torah<\/i> (one of the Mitzvot<\/i> (more special) It's Hashem<\/i> The very One who is embracing us!<\/p>\n

Therefore, the \u201cclothing\u201d of the soul allows us to be very close to Hashem<\/i>, because each Mitzvah<\/i> that we think (like knowing the greatness of Hashem<\/i>), we say (like saying the Shema Israel<\/i>) or we do (like putting ourselves tefillin<\/i>) makes us \u201cembrace Hashem<\/i>\u201dOn the other hand, no soul can "embrace" Hashem<\/i>\u201d"On its own, without the 'garments' of the soul, because there is no mind that can truly understand Hashem<\/i>. He is infinite and incomprehensible!<\/p>\n

Of course, the \u201cgarments\u201d of the soul clothe the soul; therefore, at the same time as Hashem<\/i> Embrace the \u201cGarments\u201d of the soul, you are embracing the soul\u2026<\/p>\n

In that sense of \u201cembracing Hashem<\/i>\u201dThe \u201cgarments\u201d are superior to the soul itself.\u201c And what does the Alter Rebbe want to teach us with this comparison between the soul\u2019s \u201dgarments\u201d and the soul itself?
