Kabbalah: That which is received. That which cannot be known through science or intellectual reasoning alone. An inner knowledge passed down from sage to student since ancient times. A discipline that awakens a recognition of the essence of things.
\nWe enter this world, and our senses perceive its outer layer. We touch the earth with our feet, water and wind caress our skin, and we move away from the bite of fire. We hear sounds and rhythms. We see shapes and colors. We quickly begin to measure, weigh, and describe with precision. As scientists, we record the behaviors of chemical elements, plants, animals, and human beings. We record them on video, observe them under a microscope, create mathematical models of them, and load a supercomputer with their data. From our observations, we learn to provide our environment with inventions and contraptions, and we pat ourselves on the back and say: Yes, we did it!.<\/p>\n
But we ourselves, our consciousness that examines this world, we reside in a deeper layer. That is why we cannot help but ask, what about the thing itself? That which was there before we measured it? What are matter, energy, time, space? And how did they come into being?<\/p>\n
Explaining our world without examining this internal dimension is as superficial as explaining how a computer works by describing the images on the monitor. If we see a ball moving up and down on the screen, would we say it's bouncing off the edges of the monitor? Does the scroll bar actually exert any force on the page within the window? Does the menu bar really have other menus hidden beneath it?<\/p>\n
The author of a user-friendly program followed a consistent set of rules to ensure a smooth user experience. If it's a game with some complexity, the author had to determine and adhere to a large number of rules. However, a description of those rules isn't a valid explanation of how it works. For that, we must examine its source code, the computer hardware, and, most importantly, observe the original idea as it was written down. We need to see it the way the author sees it, how it evolves step by step from a concept in their mind, through the source code they write, to the bright phosphor pixels on the screen.<\/p>\n
The code behind reality, the concept that gives life to equations and makes them real. Men and women sacrificed their sustenance and comfort, traveled great distances, and paid with their lives to come to know these things. There is no culture in the world that does not contain teachings to describe them. In Jewish teachings, they are described in Kabbalah.<\/p>\n
According to tradition, the truths of Kabbalah were known to Adam. What his mind grasped, no mind since has been able to perceive. However, he was able to transmit some of his knowledge to some of the souls who descended from him, such as Enoch and Methuselah. They were the great teachers who instructed Noah, who in turn taught his own students, including Abraham. Abraham studied at the academy of Noah's son, Shem, and sent his own son, Isaac, after him. Isaac, in turn, sent Jacob to study with Shem and with his great-grandson, Eber.<\/p>\n
Adam, Noah, Abraham\u2014these were the fathers of humanity. That is why one can find portions of the truths they taught everywhere civilization has reached.<\/p>\n
However, the essential source of Kabbalah is not Adam, Noah, or even Abraham. It is the event at Mount Sinai, where the primary essence of the cosmos was revealed before an entire nation. It was an experience that left an indelible mark on the Jewish mind, shaping all our thinking and behavior ever since.<\/p>\n
At Mount Sinai, inner wisdom ceased to be a matter of intuition or private revelation; it became a reality that entered our world and became part of the history and experience of ordinary mortals.<\/p>\n
This is why Kabbalah cannot be called a philosophy. A philosophy is a product of human minds, something that any other human mind can play with, compressing and stretching it according to the dictates of its own intellect and intuition. Kabbalah means that which is received. Not only from a teacher, but from Mount Sinai. Once a student has mastered the path of this received knowledge, he or she can find ways to extend it further, like branches growing from the trunk of a tree. But it will always be organic growth, never altering the essential life and form of the tree itself. The branches and leaves will only go where they are meant to go for that tree; a cedar will never become an oak, and a student will never reveal a secret that was not hidden in the teachings of their teacher.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Por Tzvi Freeman Cabal\u00e1: Aquello que es recibido.
