However, a deeper analysis can shed some light on this list of items, and, moreover, one should always seek the current meaning of that list. Obviously, the Mishkan It will never exist as it once was again (in fact, our sages say that it is buried, since the actions of Moshe are eternal...), yet we must look for eternal teachings even in the parts of the Torah that, apparently, do not contain a commandment for all generations.

To understand the list and the teaching, we must pause at a verse in this section, Exodus 25:8: “And let them make me a temple, and I will dwell among them.” The verse begins by speaking in the singular, about “a temple,” and ends by speaking in the plural “inside they”Our sages explain that this verse is actually speaking not only about the Sanctuary, but also about each person. God is saying, “Make yourselves a temple, and I will dwell within you” (they and you in Hebrew can be said the same way)., betojámWhen a person sanctifies themselves, God resides within them.

Now, in what matters should each person strive for sanctity? There are many ways to answer that question, but, generally speaking, they are the elements used to build the Mishkan which will give us the answer. If we look at the list, we will find that there is at least one representative of each type of element: inanimate objects (precious stones), plants (wood and spices), animals (hides and wool), and man, who armed and used the Mishkan.

Spiritually speaking, we too are composed of these elements: stones are the garments of the soul, thought, word, and deed. They are identified with stones because, like stones, letters and words are essentially inanimate. Only when they are combined and carry within them a concept do they, so to speak, "come to life.".

Emotions are like the plant world within a human being. Just as plants grow, emotions develop and grow in the heart, gaining strength as the person thinks about them.

The animal kingdom represents the intellect, since, just as the animal travels from one place to another, the intellect is capable of contemplating different (and even opposing) ideas.

The human being within man is his capacity to consciously connect with God. Furthermore, man, unlike animals, walks upright, which represents the superiority and governance of the intellect (the head) over the emotions (the heart).

(This also explains why our wise men say that man is a "small world," since the same elements are found within him as in the world at large.)

Therefore, each person is expected to be sanctified in each of these elements that make up their life, just as each of those material elements was elevated and sanctified by being used in the construction of the Mishkan. Each person should have a spiritual guide to help them look within themselves to see what elements need to be corrected and how.

La parashá de esta semana se llama Trumá (donación) y es el comienzo de la explicación sobre la construcción del Santuario (Mishkán) que acompañó al pueblo judío durante su viaje por el desierto.
