And Rebbi said: Anyone who involves himself with Perek Shirah in this world \u2014 I testify that he is destined for the World-to-Come, and he is saved from the evil inclination, and from harsh judgment, and from the destroying Satan, and from all types of enemies, and from the birth pangs of Mashia\u1e25, and from the judgment of Gehennom; and he merits to learn and to teach, to observe and to fulfill and to perform [the Torah], and his studies are established in him, and his days are lengthened, and he merits life in the World-to-Come. [Yal\u1e33ut Shimoni, end of Psalms:] The Sages said concerning King David that when he completed the book of Psalms, he became proud. He said before the blessed Holy One, \u201cIs there any creature you have created in your world that says more songs and praises than I?\u201d At that moment a frog happened across his path, and it said to him: \u201cDavid! Do not become proud, for I recite more songs and praises than you. Furthermore, every song I say contains three thousand parables, as it says, \u2018And he spoke three thousand parables, and his songs were one thousand five hundred.'[2] And furthermore, I am busy with a great mitsvah, and this is the mitsvah with which I am busy: there is a certain type of creature by the edge of the sea whose sustenance is entirely from [creatures living in] the water, and when it is hungry, it takes me and eats me, such that I fulfill that which it says, \u2018If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; for you shall heap coals of fire on his head, and God shall reward you'[3]; do not read \u2018shall reward you\u2019 but instead \u2018shall make him complete you.\u2019\u201d<h2>Chapter 1<\/h2><p>The Heavens are saying: \u201cThe heavens speak of El\u2019s kavod, and the skies tell of his handiwork.\u201d The Earth is saying: \u201cThe earth and every thing in it are God\u2019s; the inhabited area and all that dwell within it.\u201d And it is saying: \u201cFrom the wings of the land we have heard song, glory to the righteous.\u201d The Garden of Eden is saying: \u201cArouse yourself, O north [wind], and come, O south! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow out; let my Beloved come to his garden and eat of its precious fruit.\u201d Gehinnom is saying: \u201cFor he has satisfied the longing soul, and has filled the hungry soul with good.\u201d The Wilderness is saying: \u201cThe wilderness and the desert shall rejoice, and the arid region shall exult, and blossom like the rose.\u201d The Fields are saying: \u201cGod founded the land with wisdom; He established the heavens with understanding.\u201d The Waters are saying: \u201cWhen his voice resounds with a great mass of water in the heavens, and he raises vapors from the ends of the Earth; when he makes lightning amongst the rain, and he brings out the wind from its storehouses.\u201d The Seas are saying: \u201cMore than the voices of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea, God on high is mighty.\u201d The Rivers are saying: Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing for joy together!\u201d The Wellsprings are saying: \u201cAnd as singers who are like dancers are all those who study you.\u201d<h2>Chapter 2<\/h2><p>The Day is saying: \u201cDay to day utters speech, and night to night relates knowledge.\u201d The Night is saying: \u201cTo speak of his kindness in the morning, and of his faithfulness by nights.\u201d The Sun is saying: \u201cThe sun, [when covered by] the moon, stood in its abode; they speed at the light of your arrows, and at the shining of your glittering spear.\u201d The Moon is saying: \u201cHe made the Moon for the festivals; the Sun knows the time of its coming.\u201d The Stars are saying, \u201cYou, only you, are God; You made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host; the earth, and everything that is in it; the seas, and everything that is in them; and you preserve them all; and the host of heaven prostrate themselves to you.\u201d The Thick Clouds are saying, \u201cHe made darkness his secret place; His pavilion around him was dark with waters and thick clouds of the skies.\u201d The Light Clouds are saying, \u201cAlso he burdens the thick cloud with an overflow; the cloud scatters its light.\u201d The Wind is saying, \u201cI will say to the north, \u2018Give up\u2019; and to the south, \u2018Do not withhold; bring My sons from far, and My daughters from the ends of the earth.\u2019\u201d The Lightning Bolts are saying, \u201c\u2026He makes lightning for the rain; He brings forth the wind from his storehouses.\u201d The Dew is saying: \u201cI shall be as the dew to Yisra\u2019el, he shall blossom as a rose, he shall spread forth his roots as the Lebanon.\u201d The Rains are saying, \u201cYou, Elohim, poured a generous rain, to strengthen your heritage when it languished.\u201d<h2>Chapter 3<\/h2><p>The Wild Trees are saying, \u201cThen shall the trees of the forest sing out at the presence of God, because he comes to judge the earth. The Vine is saying, \u201cSo says God: As the wine is found in the cluster, and one says: \u2018Do not destroy it, for a blessing is in it\u2019 \u2013 so shall I do for the sake of my servants, so as not to destroy everything.\u201d The Fig is saying: \u201cThe one who guards the fig shall eat of her fruits.\u201d The Pomegranate is saying, \u201c\u2026Your brow is like a piece of a pomegranate behind your braids.\u201d The Palm is saying, \u201cThe righteous flourish like the palm tree; they grow like a cedar in Lebanon.\u201d The Apricot is saying, \u201cLike the apricot tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among young men. I sat down under his shadow with delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.\u201d The Sheaves of Wheat are saying, \u201cA song of ascents: Out of the depths have I cried to you, God.\u201d The Sheaves of Barley are saying, \u201cA prayer of the pauper, when he swoons, and pours out his speech before God.\u201d The Other Sheaves are saying, \u201cThe meadows are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain; they shout for joy, they also sing.\u201d The Vegetables of the Field are saying, \u201cYou water its furrows abundantly; you settle its ridges; you make it soft with showers; You bless its growth.\u201d The Grasses are saying, \u201cMay the kavod of God endure forever; may God rejoice in his works.\u201d<h2>Chapter 4<\/h2><p>The Rooster is saying, \u201cWhen the blessed Holy One comes to the righteous in the Garden of Eden, all the trees in the Garden of Eden scatter their spices, and they rejoice and praise, and then He, too, is aroused and praises.\u201d In its first call it says, \u201cSuch is the generation of them that seek after thon, that seek your face, even Ya\u2019akov. Selah! Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O everlasting doors! And the King of kavod shall come in. Who is this King of kavod? God strong and mighty, God mighty in battle!\u201d In its second call, it says, \u201cLift up your heads, O gates! Lift them up, O everlasting doors! And the King of kavod shall come in. Who is He, this King of kavod? God Tseva\u2019ot, he is the King of kavod, Selah!\u201d In its third call it says, \u201cStand, O righteous ones, and busy yourselves with Torah, so that your reward shall be double in Olam Haba.\u201d In its fourth call it says, \u201cI have hoped for your salvation, God.\u201d In its fifth call, it is saying, \u201cHow long will you sleep, O sluggard?When will you arise from your sleep?\u201d In its sixth call, it is saying, \u201cDo not love sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread.\u201d In its seventh call, it is saying, \u201cIt is time to act for God; for they have made void your Torah.\u201d The Hen is saying, \u201cHe gives bread to all flesh, for his lovingkindness endures in the cosmos.\u201d The Dove is saying, \u201cLike a swift or crane, so do I chatter; I moan like a dove; my eyes fail with looking upward; my Master, I am oppressed by my senility.\u201d The dove says before the blessed Holy One: \u201cMaster of the World! May my sustenance be as bitter as an olive in your Hand, rather than it being sweet as honey through flesh and blood.\u201d The Vulture is saying, \u201cAnd you, God Elohim Tseva\u2019ot, elo\u2019ah of Yisra\u2019el, awake to punish all the nations; do not be gracious to any wicked traitors, Selah!\u201d The Crane is saying, \u201cGive thanks to God with the lyre, make music for him with the ten-stringed harp.\u201d The Songbird is saying, \u201cThe songbird has also found her home, and the sparrow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young \u2013 Your altars, God Tseva\u2019ot, my King and my elo\u2019ah.\u201d The Swallow is saying, \u201cSo that my soul shall praise you, and shall not be silent, God my elo\u2019ah, I shall give thanks to you forever.\u201d The Swift is saying: \u201cMy help is from God, Maker of Heaven and earth.\u201d The Stormy Petrel is saying: \u201cLight is sown for the righteous, and joy for the straight-hearted.\u201d The Laughing Dove is saying: \u201cComfort My people, comfort them, says your elo\u2019ah.\u201d The Stork is saying: \u201cSpeak to the heart of Yerushalayim, and call to her, for her time has arrived, for her sins have been pardoned, for she has taken double from God\u2019s hand for all her sins.\u201d The Raven is saying, \u201cWho prepares food for the raven, when his young ones cry out to El?\u201d The Starling is saying, \u201cTheir seed shall be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which God has blessed.\u201d The Domestic Goose is saying, \u201cGive thanks to God, call upon his Name, make his works known amongst the peoples, sing to Him, make music for Him, speak of all his wonders.\u201d The Wild Goose flying in the wilderness, when it sees Yisra\u2019el busy with Torah, is saying \u201cA voice cries, Prepare in the wilderness the way of God, make straight in the desert a path for our elo\u2019ah. And upon finding its food in the wilderness, it says, \u201cCursed is the man who trusts in human beings\u2026\u201d Blessed is the man who trusts in God, and God shall be his assurance.\u201d The Ducks are saying, \u201cTrust in God forever and ever, for God Yah, is the strength of worlds.\u201d The Bee-Eater is saying: \u201cI will whistle to them and gather them, for I have redeemed them, and they shall increase as they have before increased.\u201d The Grasshopper is saying: \u201cI lift my eyes up to the mountains, wherefrom shall my help come?\u201d The Locust is saying, \u201cGod, you are my elo\u2019ah; I will exalt you, I will praise your Name; for you have done wondrous things; Your counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.\u201d The Spider is saying, \u201cPraise him with sounding cymbals! Praise him with loud clashing cymbals!\u201d The Fly, when Yisra\u2019el is not busying itself with Torah, is saying, \u201cThe voice said, \u2018Call out.\u2019 And he said, \u2018What shall I call out?\u2019 \u2018All flesh is grass, and all its grace is as the flower of the field.\u2019 \u2018\u2026The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our elo\u2019ah shall endure forever.\u2019\u201d \u2018\u201cI will create a new expression of the lips; Peace, peace for him who is far off and for him who is near, says God; and I will heal him.\u2019\u201d The Sea Monsters are saying: \u201cPraise God from the land, the sea monsters and all the depths.\u201d The Leviathan is saying, \u201cGive thanks to God for he is good, for his lovingkindness endures in the cosmos.\u201d The Fishes are saying, \u201cThe voice of God is upon the waters, the El of kavod thunders, God is upon many waters.\u201d The Frog is saying, \u201cBlessed is the Name of his resplendent Majesty in the Cosmos forever.\u201d<h2>Chapter 5<\/h2><p>The Sheep is saying: \u201cWho is like you among the mighty ones, God? Who is like you, mighty in holiness, awesome in praise, worker of wonders.\u201d The Cow is saying: \u201cRejoice to Elohim over our strength, trumpet to the elo\u2019ah of Yaakov!\u201d The Pig is saying: \u201cGod is good to the good, and to those committed at heart.\u201d The Working Animal is saying: \u201cWhen you eat the fruit of your labors, happy are you and good is your lot.\u201d The Camel is saying: \u201c\u2026God shall roar from upon high and cause his voice to sound forth from his holy place, his shout echoes profoundly over his dwelling place\u2026.\u201d The Horse is saying: \u201cBehold, as the eyes of the servants to the hand of their master, as the eyes of the maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so are our eyes to God our elo\u2019ah until he will favor us.\u201d The Mule is saying, \u201cAll the kings of the earth shall acknowledge you, God, for they have heard the sayings of your mouth.\u201d The Donkey is saying: \u201cYours, God, is the greatness, and the might, and the splendor, and the victory, and the glory, for everything in the Heavens and earth [is yours]; Yours, God, is the kingship, and the exaltation over all.\u201d The Ox is saying, \u201cThen Moshe and the Children of Yisra\u2019el sang this song to God, and they said, \u2018I shall sing to God, for he has triumphed; He has thrown the horse and its rider into the sea.\u2019\u201d The Wild Animals are saying, \u201cBlessed is the One Who is good and bestows good.\u201d The Gazelle is saying: \u201cAnd I shall sing of your strength, I shall rejoice of your kindness in the morning, for you were a refuge to me, and a hiding place on the day of my oppression.\u201d The Elephant is saying: \u201cHow great are your works, God; Your thoughts are tremendously deep.\u201d The Lion is saying: \u201cGod shall go out as a mighty man, he shall arouse zeal; He shall say, even roar, he shall prevail over his enemies.\u201d The Bear is saying: \u201cLet the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, the village that Kedar inhabits; let the inhabitants of the rocks sing, let them shout from the peaks of the mountains. Let them give kavod to God, and tell of his praise in the islands.\u201d The Wolf is saying: \u201cFor every matter of iniquity, for the ox, the donkey, the lamb, the garment, for every lost item about which he says, \u2018This is it,\u2019 the matter of both of them shall come before the judge; he who the judge finds guilty shall pay double to the other.\u201d The Fox is saying: \u201cWoe to him that builds his house without justice, and his chambers without lawfulness; that uses his friend\u2019s service without wages, and does not give him for his hire.\u201d The Hound is saying, \u201cLet the righteous rejoice in God, praise is befitting to the upright.\u201d And the Mouse says, \u201cI shall exalt you, God, for you have impoverished me, and you have not let my enemies rejoice over me.\u201d The Cat is saying, \u201cIf you rise up like a vulture, and place your nest among the stars, from there I shall bring you down, says God.\u201d And when the cat catches it, the cat says, \u201cI have pursued my enemies and overtaken them, and I did not return until they were destroyed.\u201d And the Mouse concedes, \u201cYou are just for all that comes upon me, for you have acted truthfully, and I have been wicked.\u201d<h2>Chapter 6<\/h2><p>The Creeping Creatures are saying, \u201cLet Yisra\u2019el rejoice in he Who made him; let the children of Tsiyon be joyful in their King.\u201d The Prolific Creeping Creatures are saying, \u201cYour wife shall be like a fruittful vine in the recesses of your house; your children like olive shoots around your table.\u201d The Snake is saying: \u201cGod supports all the fallen, and straightens all the bent.\u201d The Scorpion is saying, \u201cYah is good to all, and his mercy is upon all of his handiwork.\u201d The Snail is saying, \u201cLike the snail that melts away, the stillborn of a mole that does not see the sun.\u201d The Ant is saying, \u201cGo to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.\u201d The Rat is saying: \u201cLet every soul praise Yah, Hallelu-Yah!\u201d The Dogs are saying, \u201cCome, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before God our Maker.\u201d [Yalkut Shimoni, Bo 187:] Rabbi Yeshayah, student of Rabbi \u1e24anina ben Dosa, fasted eighty-five fasts. He said, \u201cDogs, about which it is written, \u2018the dogs are brazen of spirit; they do not know satisfaction&#8217; \u2014 shall they merit saying a song?\u201d An angel answered him from Heaven and said to him, \u201cYeshayah, until when will you fast over this? It is an oath from the blessed Holy One; from the day that he revealed his secret to Havakuk the prophet, he has not revealed this matter to anyone in the world. But because you are the student of a great man, I have been sent from Heaven to assist you. They said that dogs have written about them, \u2018No dog sharpened its tongue against any of the children of Yisra\u2019el&#8217;. Furthermore, they merited that hides are tanned with their excrement, on which Tefillin, Mezuzot, and Torah scrolls are written. For this reason they merited saying a song. And regarding what you asked, take back your word and do not continue in this way, as it is written, \u2018He that guards his mouth and tongue, guards from afflictions of his soul.\u2019\u201d Blessed is God forever, Amen and Amen.<h2>Concluding Prayer<\/h2><p>After reciting the chapter of Shirah: Master of all worlds, may it be Your will before You, Lord my God and the God of my ancestors, that in the merit of \u00abthe chapter of Shirah\\\u00bb that I have recited \u2013 which is the song of the mute, the growing, and the living, and the appointed angels over them from the blessed God \u2013 may its recitation be like bringing an offering upon the altar. May this moment be a time of mercy, a time of heeding, a time of listening, and may You be called upon and answer us.
