La parash\u00e1 nos cuenta sobre el descenso a Egipto, contabilizando el n\u00famero de almas \u00abdescendientes de Iaacov\u00bb que bajaron a Egipto, concluyendo: \u00abtodo el alma… que vino a Egipto, setenta\u00bb. Sin embargo, cuando contamos los nombres mencionado en la parash\u00e1 se llega solamente a sesenta y nueve; \u00bfCu\u00e1l era el alma n\u00famero setenta?.Al respecto de esta pregunta existen varias opiniones: el Talmud trae una opini\u00f3n (que Rashi, el padre de los comentaristas, menciona en su comentario a la Tor\u00e1) que Iojeved, que naci\u00f3 entre las murallas mientras ingresaban a Egipto, es la que completa los setenta. De acuerdo al Midrash, Di-s mismo ingres\u00f3 junto a los hijos de Iaacov y completa la cuenta. Varios comentaristas de la Tor\u00e1 opinan (tambi\u00e9n de acuerdo con una opini\u00f3n del Midrash), que Iaacov mismo es quien complet\u00f3 la cuenta de setenta almas.<\/p>\n
Cuando analizamos las diferentes opiniones, podemos observar que hay opiniones opuestas, desde un extremos a otro: si aceptamos que Di-s o Iaacov completan la cuenta de setenta almas, vemos que la completitud viene a trav\u00e9s del componente m\u00e1s \u00abgrande\u00bb del conjunto. Por el contrario, si Iojeved completa la cuenta de setenta almas, vemos que la completitud viene a trav\u00e9s del \u00abmenor\u00bb componente del conjunto, un beb\u00e9 reci\u00e9n nacido.<\/p>\n
What is the point of contention between the different opposing opinions? The explanation is linked to the very descent of the Jewish people into Egypt. With this descent begins the preparation for the Giving of the Torah and for the fulfillment of the Jewish people's overarching goal: to unite the holiness and spirituality of God with the physical world around us. What gives the Jewish people the strength to carry out such a monumental mission\u2014to make this physical world a dwelling place for God\u2014without being drawn in by the spiritual darkness of the world?<\/p>\n
The first opinion states that the strength comes from Jacob, who descended with his people to Egypt. The spiritual level of Jacob, our patriarch, transcends exile and is unaffected by the servitude of Egypt. The symbolism of Jacob's descent with his sons to Egypt is that from him comes the strength for the Jewish people to remain unaffected by exile.<\/p>\n
The second opinion states that the one who completes the count of seventy is God Himself, whose meaning is even deeper: the strength of the sons of Jacob to endure the hardships of exile arises from the fact that God Himself joins them in the suffering of exile, so that, just as exile cannot rule over God, neither can it rule over the Jewish people.<\/p>\n
According to these two opinions, the strength of the Jewish people to overcome the difficulties of exile arises from a superior Divine power.<\/p>\n
Por otro lado, hay una tercera opini\u00f3n, que Iojeved completa la cuenta de setenta almas. Iojeved es la madre de Mosh\u00e9 Rabeinu (nuestro maestro), que revel\u00f3 en el pueblo jud\u00edo la fe. A\u00fan ella misma fue la matrona hebrea que salv\u00f3 y sustent\u00f3 a los ni\u00f1os jud\u00edos tras el decreto del Fara\u00f3n de que \u00abtodo ni\u00f1o que nazca, arr\u00f3jenlo al r\u00edo\u00bb, nutri\u00e9ndolos de fe y confianza en Di-s.<\/p>\n
La idea de la tercera opini\u00f3n es que, a\u00fan encontr\u00e1ndose en un nivel espiritual bajo, el pueblo jud\u00edo tiene la fuerza de la fe (fuerza que se encuentra en forma revelada en particular en las mujeres, como dicen nuestros sabios: \u00abpor m\u00e9rito de las mujeres santas de aquella \u00e9poca, nuestros padres fueron redimidos de Egipto\u00bb), a trav\u00e9s del cual se pueden superar todas las dificultades del exilio.<\/p>\n
In other words, the strength of the Jewish people can arise from the study of the Torah, which means that an external, superior force raises them to God, or it can arise from the revelation of the internal potential of each and every one of them, which is achieved through the power of Teshuvah, repentance and return to God.<\/p>\n
