In this parashah we learn an important lesson about how we should face difficulties.<\/p>\n
Sometimes we find that not everyone understands our customs and traditions, and when they see us living a Jewish life, they mock us or despise us.<\/p>\n
In this week's parashah we see Judah, one of the sons of Jacob, who had to confront the governor of all Egypt to save his brother Benjamin.<\/p>\n
Where did he get the strength to do it? The Torah tells us "Vaigash elav Yehuda," which means "And Yehuda approached him (Yosef).".<\/p>\n
The Midrash tells us that the first step in Vaigash, Judah's approach, was to muster his courage. Judah probably took a deep breath before he began to speak, and thought about it several times, but he accepted the challenge. He knew it wouldn't be easy, but he was determined to do his best.<\/p>\n
Another meaning of the word Vaigash is the approach in prayer. Judah prayed to God for help in his mission.<\/p>\n
God was watching. He saw how determined Judah was and heard his prayers. Then everyone saw how Judah's tactic worked; Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, and the difficult situation they were going through ended.<\/p>\n
When you face a difficult situation, try to do it like Judah. Pray to God and strengthen yourself to overcome the challenge with determination. When we face a challenge with courage and confidence, God helps us overcome it.<\/p>\n
