This week's parashah tells us about the enslavement of the Jewish people in Egypt.<\/p>\n
But the parashah begins Ve'eile Shmot bnei Israel haBaim Mitzraima \u2013 And these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt.\u00bb.<\/p>\n
Even before they were enslaved, they had already entered into exile.<\/p>\n
When a Jew leaves the Land of Israel and goes to Egypt, he is in exile. He can immediately feel the difference between the Land of Israel and Egypt.<\/p>\n
Let's take an imaginary trip with Bnei Israel.<\/p>\n

Life in Egypt makes people feel completely dependent on the Nile River. They are always looking down at this natural force.<\/p>\n
This is how many people think about galut \u2013 exile. But it's a mistake to think that we are totally dependent on nature.<\/p>\n
The truth is that HaShem controls everything, including nature. When we look up at the sky and ask God to give us rain to water our fields, we remember that our food and our very lives depend on HaShem.<\/p>\n
