On that day in the year 5754 (1994), the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of blessed memory, passed away.<br \/>\nAnnually, thousands of Hasidim and Jews of all affiliations and non-affiliations gather at his grave to pray and connect with God in a holy place (as our sages explain, the grave of the Tzaddikim is a portal to heaven through which prayers reach God more directly).<br \/>\nIn turn, wherever Hasidim gather, farbrenguens - Hasidic gatherings - are organized to discuss the importance of a Rebbe, to encourage one another in the observance of the Torah and its Mitzvot in general, and in the love of one's neighbor - Ahavat Israel - in particular.<br \/>\nA person wrote to the previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneeson, of blessed memory, asking how he could connect with him, since the Rebbe did not know him personally. The Rebbe replied in a letter that connection with the Rebbe is achieved through studying the Rebbe's teachings, his Hasidic discourses and talks, as well as through conversation with those connected to the Rebbe.<br \/>\nNow then: what is a Rebbe? Of course, given the depth of the subject, it cannot be summarized in a short, quick-read editorial, but to give you a basic idea, here is a story.<br \/>\nAs an introduction, the Talmud lists hundreds of names of different rabbis who participated in legal discussions in the houses of study a thousand years ago and more. Among the most common are Abaye and Rava, two contemporaries who almost always disagreed.<br \/>\nNow for the story. Once, an opponent of the Hasidic movement met a Hasid and asked him, "Why do you need a Rebbe when you have Abaye and Rava?" (In other words, dedicate yourself exclusively to the study of the Talmud; there you will find everything necessary for Torah observance.) The Hasid replied, "I don't know if Abaye and Rava in Gan Eden are thinking of you.".<br \/>\nA Rebbe is a shepherd of his flock (the Jewish people) and thinks about the spiritual and material well-being of each one, praying to God that this well-being will materialize and come to us in the form of health, children, and sustenance.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Se acerca el 3 de Tamuz, una fecha importante en el calendario de Jabad.
