.Jewish marriage is called an eternal structure. For the edifice of marriage to be truly strong and lasting, everything connected with the wedding, as well as the establishment of the couple's home, must be in complete accordance with the instructions of the Torah. The Torah is called Torat Chaim, the Torah of Life, and is the source of eternal life in the World to Come, as well as the true guide for earthly life.
\nThe analogy of marriage to an "eternal building" is not merely an expression, but rather contains an important idea and moral. In the case of any structure, the first and most important step is to ensure the quality and durability of the foundation. Without such a foundation, all the effort put into the walls, roof, decorations, etc., is for nothing. This is even more true when we speak of marriage; if its foundation is unstable, it could be a tragedy! This is why Jewish marriage must be founded on a rock-solid base, which is the Torah and the Mitzvot, followed by the blessing of happiness and joy for the loving couple for the rest of their lives.
\nIn all matters pertaining to Torah observance, we follow the principle that "all Jews are responsible for one another." We are not only obligated to practice the mitzvot ourselves, but we are also obligated to encourage and assist others in their observance. Therefore, it is clear that each person has an obligation to help the bridegroom and bride establish the eternal edifice.
\nWe must show them how and why we should maintain a kosher kitchen in our new home. We must introduce them to the beauty of Shabbat and show them the laws and regulations of "Taharat ha-mishpachah," the laws of family purity (mikveh), which bring sanctity to marital relations. Let no one think that this is a private matter between the couple, in which no one has the right to interfere. That view is completely unjustified. If we see someone harming themselves, or their children, or worse, doing something that will lead to their self-destruction, God forbid, no one should consider it interference to try to prevent that person from harming themselves.
