In this week's Torah portion, Jacob and Esau were born. The Torah tells us that Jacob was a righteous man, while Esau was wicked.<\/p>\n
Itzjak loved Eisav more because he thought he was fair. Eisav confused him by asking questions about nonexistent laws, which Itzjak thought weren't inappropriate questions, but rather an attempt to uphold the law beyond what it required.<\/p>\n
Then the Torah tells us about the blessings that Isaac bestowed upon Jacob. Toward the end of his life, God blinded Isaac's eyes so that, instead of blessing Esau, whom Isaac loved most, he would bless Jacob, our patriarch.<\/p>\n
The question is: why did God have to devise such an indirect method (blinding Isaac) for Jacob to receive the blessings instead of simply telling Isaac that Esau is wicked and Jacob deserves the blessings?<\/p>\n
The answer is that God did not want to speak ill of Esau. Therefore, to prevent him from receiving the blessings, He blinded Isaac's eyes.<\/p>\n
From this we learn a practical and eternal lesson: if God, who knows all the thoughts, words, and actions of all human beings, did not want to speak ill of someone who is wicked, how much more so we, who do not know the true situation of each person, cannot speak ill or think ill of anyone!<\/p>\n
