During Passover, we celebrate the Exodus from Egypt, 3319 years ago. While this is the historical perspective of what happened, the Torah is not only a book of chronicles and ancient stories, but also a book of life lessons for everyday life for people everywhere and at all times.<\/p>\n
In Egypt we were slaves, and at Passover, we emerged into freedom. Thanks be to God, in most countries where Jews live today, they are allowed to express their faith openly, without fear or persecution. Even the President of Russia\u2014a country that persecuted and murdered thousands of Jews for many years\u2014now participates in events at the invitation of the Chief Rabbi of Russia and supports his work. So, what is the current meaning of this liberation? We are already free!<\/p>\n
Furthermore, in light of what the Passover Haggadah says, "In every generation, one must see oneself as if one had come out of Egypt," if we were never slaves, can we imagine coming out to freedom?<\/p>\n
The explanation is that freedom does not only apply to the emancipation of a people subjugated by another, but there is an idea of freedom that is still valid in our lives.<\/p>\n
Freedom means distancing oneself from all societal influences that prevent a person from expressing their true self. To be free means to be who one truly is, and not to be "swept along by the current." There are limitations that a person acquires from their environment and there are self-imposed limitations that arise from their own nature. Freedom means shedding the negative influences of society and one's own undesirable inclinations and attitudes.<\/p>\n
In this sense, all of us, without exception, can work to free ourselves and rise to a more meaningful and happier life by expressing our own essence as Jews, by connecting to God through the Torah and the Mitzvot.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"En Pesaj festejamos la salida de Egipto, hace 3319 a\u00f1os.
