The name of this week's parashah is Naso. While in the context in which it is found the word means "Count" (of counting numbers), the literal translation is "Raises up."\"<\/p>\n
And what is it that should be lifted up? That's why the verse continues, "the head." Again, the context is counting people, in this case the tribe of Levi, but the literal translation would be "Lift up your head.".<\/p>\n
It is not necessary to philosophize too much to understand that in the society in which we live today, in order to be successful and happy (in business, family, friends, etc.) it is necessary to raise your head, that is, to rise above the problems that plague us and deal with them intelligently (as they say, brains are better than brawn).<\/p>\n
Judaism offers a unique system for elevating one's mind: through the study of Torah. Beyond the intellectual refinement fostered by the Torah's style\u2014replete with questions, answers, and counter-questions, arguments for and against, and impressive depth\u2014the study itself "elevates" the individual and allows them to gain a completely different perspective on the universe.<\/p>\n
Why? Because the Torah is the Wisdom of God, that is, the Torah teaches us what God's perspective is on all the matters that happen to us daily.<\/p>\n
