This Wednesday, the 2nd, at 6:09 PM (in La Plata), the fast of the 9th of Av begins and extends until Thursday at 6:41 PM. This is a day on which several difficult events occurred in the history of the Jewish people (see details).<\/p>\n
Added to this is the difficult situation we are experiencing these days, with our brothers fighting on the front lines.<\/p>\n
These kinds of dates lead a person to take stock of the events, to know how we got here and what steps to take to move forward and improve the situation we are in.<\/p>\n
Our sages say that the cause of the destruction of the Second Temple (69 CE) was unfounded hatred. If we are still in exile, it is because we have not yet eradicated from among ourselves the reason that led to our exile.<\/p>\n
As Maimonides explains, when one has an undesirable attitude, the way to resolve it is to go to the other extreme. Today we live with unfounded hatred among ourselves. This is what keeps us in exile as a people in general, and this is what corrodes the community of our city in particular. To grow as human beings and as a people, and more specifically as a community in a city, we must have unfounded love among ourselves (and the rest of humanity).<\/p>\n
