We are all paying close attention to what is currently happening in Israel. I doubt anyone truly understands what is going on and why; I doubt there is a single Jew who isn't concerned about the situation.<\/p>\n
Israel is the heart of the world. What happens in Israel affects and, in turn, reflects what happens in the world. There is a feedback loop between Israel and the diaspora.<\/p>\n
This is not the place to elaborate on what the Israeli government should do, but rather what you and I can and should do from here.<\/p>\n
In similarly delicate situations, the Rebbe always emphasized how the physical condition of the Jewish people depends on their spiritual condition and how all members of the Jewish people, without distinction, are intertwined.<\/p>\n
When a Jew anywhere in the world fulfills a Mitzvah, it not only benefits him or her, but also strengthens the entire Jewish people, including on a material level, and especially those who are in the Land of Israel.<\/p>\n
Therefore, in addition to what each of you is already doing, I recommend reinforcing the following Mitzvot, which have a special protective effect:<\/p>\n
Put on Tefillin every day.
\nPut a few coins into Tzedakah - charity - daily and do acts of kindness.
\nLighting candles on Shabbat and holidays.
\nPut kosher Mezuzot on the doors of the houses.
\nStudy some Torah daily.
\nHaving sacred books in the house (Torah, Psalms, etc.).
\nEat only kosher food.
\nObey the laws of Family Purity.
\nGive your children a kosher Jewish education.
\nIncrease in love for one's neighbor.
\nTo have a letter in a Book of the Torah.
