On this day, the 20th of Kislev in 1796, the first copy of the Tanya, the main book of Chabad Hasudit, was printed.
Its author, the Alter Rebbe (Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi), worked on the text for twenty years, perfecting it down to the last detail, so as not to write even one letter more or less.
This book became the basis for hundreds of thousands (literally) of Hasidic discourses throughout the seven generations of Chabad Rebeim.
The book has 53 chapters and deals with topics such as the composition of the soul, depression, joy in serving God, the Divine direction of man in the universe and his reason for being.
