Summary of parashat Tzav
God commands Moshe to teach Aaron and his sons about their obligations and rights as Kohanim (priests) who offer Korbanot (animal and vegetable offerings) in the Sanctuary.
The fire on the altar must always be burning. The Elevation Offerings are completely burned on it, as are the fats from the Peace, Sin, and Guilt Offerings, and the separate handful of Grain Offerings.
The Kohanim eat the meat from the Sin and Guilt Offerings and the remains of the Grain Offerings. The Peace Offering is eaten by the one who brings it, except for the specific portions that are given to the Kohen. The sacred meat of the offerings is eaten by ritually pure persons, in its designated holy place and within the specified time period.
Aharon and his sons stay inside the Sanctuary compound for seven days, during which Moshe initiates them into the priesthood.
