In this week's parashah, the Torah tells us about the mitzvah of Tzitzit. All garments that have four points must have, at each of the points, a series of fringes.
Our sages tell us that the idea behind this Mitzvah is that, by seeing the fringes, we remember God and His commandments.
In fact, the word Tzitzit, When you add up the letters in Hebrew, you get the number 600. Plus 8 fringes and 5 knots on each fringe, it gives 613, the number of Tzitzitof the Torah.
Furthermore, at the time when the Temple in Jerusalem was built, one of the fringes of each Tzitzit It was bluish in color, called Tjélet. Our wise men tell us that Tjélet It resembles the sea, the sea the sky, and so, upon seeing the Tjélet One remembers that God is above us and protects us.
