This parashah is the only one where Moshe's name does not appear. When the Jewish people sinned with the Golden Calf, Moshe prayed that Hashem would forgive them, and if He did not forgive them, Moshe said, "Blot me out of Your book." That is why his name was removed from one parashah: Tetzaveh.
Moses sacrificed his life for the Torah. However, when it came to forgiving the Jewish people, even for a sin as grave as idolatry, he set aside his commitment to the Torah for the sake of the Jewish people.
Moses and the Jewish people are inextricably linked. When the people sinned and their holiness declined, Moses also declined, even though he was not involved in the sin and could not warn them because he was on the mountain. Nevertheless, he sacrificed his life for them.
Moses's actions teach us that every Jew should sacrifice his life for another Jew. Moses gave us the strength to do so.
