On Monday, during recess, Jaim and Dani were reminiscing about how fantastic the camp had been.
"For me, the best thing was the football match," Jaim said.
""Yes, it was very good, but for me the best part was the treasure hunt," Dani replied.
""It was great that we were on the same team throughout the entire camp!" Dani continued, "we won everything.".
""That's right," Jaim said, nodding his head. "We had an amazing team spirit and camaraderie. Do you remember the team anthem?""
""Yes, that anthem gave us incredible strength; with it we won everything.".
Professor Goldstein, who was standing next to the boys chatting, joined the conversation exclaiming, "Thank you! You've given me an idea for Torah class.".
The boys looked at him intrigued...
""It's the spirit of the team's song," the professor explained. "In this week's parashah, Ki Tetzé, Jewish soldiers go to war. The Torah says, 'Ki tetzé lamiljamá al oiveja,' 'When you go to war against your enemies...' We translate the word 'al' as 'against,' but it literally means 'upon.' When a Jew has to fight in a war, from the very beginning he should feel that this over his enemies.
""Because the soul of a Jew is a part of God, anything or anyone that tries to harm him will not succeed. Knowing this will fill him with a spirit of victory that will lead him to win the battle.".
The Torah isn't just talking about battlefields. Each of us has a personal battle against our yetzer hara (evil inclination). We must rise above it. over Our enemy, knowing that the yetzer hara (evil inclination) has no chance against us, will fill us with a spirit of victory and help us win these battles.
