There is no biblical obligation for non-Jews to pray, but it is considered right and desirable.
Where do we learn this from? The Prophet Ishaiah said, “My house will be a house of prayer for all peoples.” King Solomon also requested that the temple be a place of prayer to God for all nations.
Prayer for Gentiles should not be done with a Jewish prayer book (sidur) because it is prepared for the spiritual architecture of a Jew. The prayer book often says: “Asher kidehsanu”"That is, God sanctified us with his commandments (the Jews) and it makes no sense for a Gentile to say this, because they have 7 specific precepts to fulfill.".
There is no specific time to dedicate to prayer; you can pray whenever you wish. It is important to establish a daily prayer routine. Even when you don't feel like it, it is important to pray anyway to connect with God, not just to avoid the temptation.
for personal gain.
Prayer should not only be linked to requests, but has a specific order:
- Praise be to God,
- Personal requests can then be made. It is also important to include the needs of a community (world peace, etc.).
- Finally, a thank you.
It is essential that prayer be directed to God, the One and Only King, the Almighty, who has no intermediaries. One does not pray to angels, saints, etc. If one prays to anyone or anything other than God, this is considered idolatry and is contrary to the commandments for the Bnei Noach.
The language one uses to pray should be one that one understands so that one feels love for God in one's heart. One should not use tallit, tefillin, kippah (because they are Jewish elements unrelated to the Bnei Noaj), but it is permissible to cover the head, because this signifies modesty and respect.
It is important to set aside a clean place in the house without bad smells, to wear modest clothing, so that it is as the Talmud says: to present oneself as a slave before the master.
It is also important to give tzedakah (charity) before praying. As King David said, “With tzedakah (righteousness) I will see your face.” Charity makes prayer flow.
Prayer is a moment of connection (Toifel = union) with God. It is necessary to keep in mind that you are speaking to God and praising Him, saying what you want and thanking Him.
The text of the prayer must be spoken aloud, not just imagined or thought about.
We give thanks to God for allowing us to understand His Oneness ever more deeply and for the clarity of knowing that we should direct our prayers only to Him.
