Nu? The war is over, the newspapers are focused on other things, the demented Iranian nuclear program is resurfacing, and the world thinks the worst is over.
If this is true, why did 159 Israelis, the vast majority of them Jewish, die? Each one is a whole world; the slightest positive action from any one of them could have tipped the scales of the world in favor of all and brought about Redemption. And for what?
What we have in our hands is nothing: a UN resolution that doesn't even mention financial reparations for Israel (though it does for Lebanon, obviously, despite them being the aggressors), a Lebanese army made up of a significant percentage of Hezbollah fighters "protecting" our borders, an Iran that has positioned itself as an economic and military power in the region and emerged from the conflict strengthened and increasingly unhinged, soldiers still held captive, and a government learning the art of corruption from the West...
We need to learn to value our lives a little more. The only way to do that is to return to our roots and learn what God wants from us, what He gave us life for.
Israel may be a modern and Westernized country, but we cannot ignore what makes us different as Jews, what kept us alive for thousands of years against all odds, and the only thing that will lead us to the Final Redemption, which is our Torah and its Mitzvot.
