In one place it says (Jov 37:21): "And now they saw no bright light in the heavens.".

But elsewhere it says (Tehilim 18:12): "He makes darkness His refuge.""

Is God in darkness or in light?

A third verse answers (Tehillim 97:2): "Neither does darkness darken you, and the night shines like the day, just as darkness is light.".

- Beginning of Sefer HaBahir

That is the path of the Torah:

First we find light. Then we find darkness that contradicts the light. And then the Torah reveals an inner oneness that transcends light and darkness.

The Torah is suspicious of the essence of all things.
