Hope and trust in God exist, and they are two different attitudes.
Hope is when there's still something to hold on to, even the smallest possibility. Someone who's drowning, they say, will grasp at straws to save their life.
Trust in God is when there is nothing left to hope for. The decree is sealed. The sword is over the neck. According to all the laws of nature, there is no way out.
But the one who runs the show doesn't need any help.
