Este Shabat se denomina «Shabat Mevarjím» – el Shabat que Bendecimos. El nombre se aplica a cada uno de los shabatot del año que preceden al comienzo de un nuevo mes. Como la semana que viene comienza el mes de Nisán, este Shabat lo bendice.
La costumbre de bendecir al mes surge de la histórica santificación del mes, cuando, en la época del Gran Templo de Ierushaláim, testigos observaban la nueva luna y testificaban ante el Gran Juzgado. Luego de verificar el testimonio, los sabios declaraban el comienzo del nuevo mes santificando el día como «Rosh Jodesh» – Comienzo del mes. En recuerdo a esta santificación, hoy en día bendecimos el nuevo mes en el Shabat anterior al su comienzo.
However, the idea of blessing the new month is more profound than a simple custom. The Shabbat that blesses the new month embodies all the energy and power of the new month, which is why it blesses it. In turn, the month of Nisan is the month of Passover, whose central theme is the Exodus from Egypt, the liberation of the Jewish people.
