Argentina is currently experiencing an energy crisis. Newspapers are reporting from across the country on power outages, with some areas going without electricity for up to two weeks! Adding to the problem are shortages of gas and fuel, leading to endless lines and difficulties filling up tanks (or diesel, which is even more restricted).
Added to all this was a cold wave from the South Pole that gave us, for a little while at least, the feeling of being literally at the pole, with snow and everything!
This is the situation in Argentina (better not to mention the inflation that the Government denies, the low wages, lack of education and health, etc.).
The Baal Shem Tov used to say that from everything one hears or sees, one should learn a lesson in the service of God. What can we learn from the energy crisis in Argentina?
The lack of electricity and gas generates two interesting effects: without electricity there is no light, and without gas there is no fire, that is, heat, and its derivatives (such as combustion in a car engine), which results in cold.
Our sages explain that the same result is achieved when there is no Torah and Mitzvot in the Jewish community. With each positive Mitzvah that a person fulfills, they bring Divine Energy into the world, a "ray" of God's Infinite Light. On the other hand, when a person does not observe the prohibitive precepts (God forbid), they plunge the Divine Energy within them (their soul) into darkness. (It should be noted that one could consider an explanation for each of the effects, such as manifestations, colds, ailments, etc., but we leave that to the reader's imagination.).
In other words, both paths generate darkness and cold. That is why Kabbalah identifies the Diasporic Exile with night, because night, in general, is dark and cold.
In other words, we live in a time of spiritual energy crisis. While it's confined to the Jewish sphere, it has a profound effect on the entire universe.
Of course, the way to solve the spiritual crisis is much simpler than that of the energy crisis: it is only a matter of assuming our responsibility towards the rest of humanity and towards God, and starting to bring our souls out of the darkness (by observing the prohibitive precepts) and bring energy (that is, God) into the world (by observing the positive precepts) to end the darkness and reach the Final Redemption, swiftly in our days, Amen.
