La sección de esta semana da comienzo al libro de Shmot – Nombres. Rabí Moshe ben Najman, conocido como Najmánides, llamó a este libro el Libro de la Redención, ya que en él aparece el relato de la Salida de Egipto, evento que, como dicen nuestros sabios, debe ser recordado y vivenciado todos los días. Más allá del significado simple de esta idea (que debemos recordar la Salida de Egipto todos los días), debemos encontrar en este mandato rabínico un significado más profundo, más práctico y actual, de manera que ese recuerdo se torne una herramienta poderosa de acercamiento a Di-s y mejoramiento personal y no solamente la mención diaria de un evento en la historia de la humanidad.
The Egyptians considered the Nile River a deity. The reason for this is that all the water they and their fields drank came from the Nile. In other words, the life force of all Egypt came from the river, which symbolizes nature. On the other hand, the defining characteristic of the Land of Israel was rain. That is, in the Land of Israel, the farmer depended on God to irrigate his fields, symbolizing that the life force came from God. (This difference is clearly stated in the Torah; see Deuteronomy 11:10-11.).
While the Jewish people lived in the Land of Israel, they witnessed God's influence on the universe firsthand. But when they descended to Egypt, when they entered exile, they saw only the river (nature) as a life force. The same is true of our current exile: the divine life force in creation is hidden, and the world is perceived as separate from God. It is as if we were in Egypt.
That is why our sages tell us that every day we must remember the Exodus from Egypt, so that we are always aware that our energy truly comes from God, despite finding ourselves in physical and spiritual exile.
La fuerza para salirse de la influencia «egipcia» de considerar a la naturaleza como única fuente de vida la extraemos de la neshamá, el alma. La fe del alma se basa en que ella está frente a Di-s constantemente, como viéndolo, y esa visión influencia a la persona en éste mundo material para que tenga la sensación de un Di-s presente. La fe fue uno de los méritos por los cuales el pueblo judío salió de Egipto, y la fe es uno de los méritos por los cuales vamos a ser redimidos nuevamente, rápido en nuestros días.
