Mazl Tov! This is newsletter number 100! We started in the second week of May 2005 (parashat Emor) and reached 100 issues (and very close to celebrating two years, in 2 weeks).
In general, the number 100 is seen as a complete number. From a simple perspective, one hundred years is a century, a complete cycle. From a Kabbalistic perspective, 100 represents the completeness of the combination of the 10 Divine qualities among themselves.
Be that as it may, true completeness means the coming of the Messiah, when all creation will reach its reason for being, the revelation of the Divine presence on earth.
In this regard, our sages say that man is like a small world. This means not only that each human being can be seen as a universe unto himself, with his affairs, conflicts, joys, etc., but, more profoundly, that each one has an intrinsic connection with the universe, so that what happens on a personal level happens on a universal level and vice versa.
In this context, when we speak of the coming of the Messiah, it is not simply a hope to keep in mind to overcome difficult times, but rather something to work towards, something to strive for. If the coming of the Messiah signifies a mega-event, bringing about breathtaking changes in the world, this must begin with personal changes within each of us.
By each of us setting aside the trivialities to which we usually dedicate ourselves and focusing our time and effort on improving and completing ourselves as people, we will bring wholeness to the whole world, so that we can accelerate and definitively bring the Final Redemption, swiftly in our days.
