The words and stories of the Torah are merely its garments; the guidance contained within them is its body. Just as within the body resides the soul that gives it life, within the guidance resides a soul that vitalizes the teachings. And within the soul resides a deeper, more transcendent soul, the soul of the soul: God Himself within His Torah.
If you take only the clothes, you will have an empty shell. Try to take the soul, or even the body, and you will have nothing. They are not to be taken; they are Divine wisdom, and you are a creature.
Instead, examine the words and stories, meditate on them again and again. Just as fine clothes or jewelry enhance the beauty of the wearer, so too do these words and stories directly reveal the Divinity that resides within them.
