Darkness, no matter how sinister or frightening, is not an entity or force in itself; it is merely the absence of light. Light does not have to struggle against and overcome darkness to dispel it; where there is light, there is no darkness. A little light will illuminate an entire room.
The same can be said of good and evil: evil is not an entity in itself or a force, but rather the mere absence or concealment of good. One does not need to "defeat" the evil in the world, but only to bring to light the good that dwells within it.
