Human beings are composed of body and soul. Consequently, all our affairs and activities contain elements of both body and soul—the material and the spiritual.

Mundane and routine activities are generally motivated by material and physical gain. However, the "soul" of all these physical matters demands to be recognized—it demands the infusion, within ordinary affairs, of the awareness that there are greater goals and a higher purpose. Giving to charity and supporting the Torah education of Jewish children—these are the spiritual incentives that should motivate a person in their daily activities.

Each of us is a microcosm of all Creation. Achieving harmony within one's soul and material life is achieving harmony between heaven and earth."
