The following is an excerpt from a reflection by Rabbi Eliezer Shemtov, Chabad envoy to Uruguay.

We are all paying close attention to what is currently happening in Israel. I doubt anyone truly understands what is going on and why; I doubt there is a single Jew who isn't concerned about the situation.

Israel is the heart of the world. What happens in Israel affects and, in turn, reflects what happens in the world. There is a feedback loop between Israel and the diaspora.

This is not the place to elaborate on what the Israeli government should do, but rather what you and I can and should do from here.

In similarly delicate situations, the Rebbe always emphasized how the physical condition of the Jewish people depends on their spiritual condition and how all members of the Jewish people, without distinction, are intertwined.

When a Jew anywhere in the world fulfills a Mitzvah, it not only benefits him or her, but also strengthens the entire Jewish people, including on a material level, and especially those who are in the Land of Israel.

Therefore, in addition to what each of you is already doing, I recommend reinforcing the following Mitzvot, which have a special protective effect:

Put on Tefillin every day.
Put a few coins into Tzedakah - charity - daily and do acts of kindness.
Lighting candles on Shabbat and holidays.
Put kosher Mezuzot on the doors of the houses.
Study some Torah daily.
Having sacred books in the house (Torah, Psalms, etc.).
Eat only kosher food.
Obey the laws of Family Purity.
Give your children a kosher Jewish education.
Increase in love for one's neighbor.
To have a letter in a Book of the Torah.
Participate in Maimonides' daily study
