We often speak of true faith as a "higher vision." The soul, not limited to our small world, sees a reality that the mind cannot imagine. From that vision comes the power to face the challenges of a confusing and dark world.
But this "high vision" implies that there are two, not one: there is you, and there is the vision. And if there are two, when darkness and confusion torment, the two can be separate.
That's when it becomes necessary to reach the very essence of the soul: not a vision, but a feeling of being. The feeling that this is my God and I am His. That we are one. There is nothing else.
Where there is nothing else, there is nothing to part with.
