Some people think that life is just about doing good and avoiding evil. For them, effort has no purpose in itself: having had to make an effort is a failure. Success, they imagine, is a sweet treat without even a trace of bitterness.
They are wrong, very wrong. Effort is an opportunity to reach the highest point, when darkness itself becomes light. In the midst of effort, an inner light is awakened. A light deep enough to overcome the darkness and conquer it.
But if darkness never fights back, how will it ever be conquered?
